A few kilometers from La Muraglia, stands Ragusa Ibla, the oldest district of the historic center of Ragusa, which is a treasure to admire and, above all, to preserve, not only for the historical value of some churches and noble palaces, but also for the success that Ibla collects from tourists. Ragusa Ibla has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.After the earthquake of 1693, the city of ancient Ragusa was rebuilt by implementing construction sites that produced works, buildings and monuments of late Baroque taste. In it there are 14 of the 18 monuments of the city of Ragusa now registered in the World Heritage Site.L’antica città contiene oltre cinquanta chiese e numerosi palazzi in stile barocco. Nella parte più orientale, si trova il Giardino Ibleo e sono inoltre presenti gli scavi di un’antica città che secondo diversi storici sarebbe identificabile con l’Hybla Heraia.Nel 1866 il quartiere si staccò amministrativamente dal resto della città diventando comune autonomo col nome di Ragusa Inferiore, nome che mantenne fino al 1922 quando fu cambiato in Ragusa Ibla. Il 2 gennaio 1927, in occasione dell’elevazione a capoluogo di provincia della città di Ragusa, i due comuni furono riuniti.
