Modica, about 20 minutes from La Muraglia, is a city of Neolithic origins among the most picturesque in the province and throughout Sicily; the appearance is mainly late Baroque dating back to the aftermath of the earthquake of 1693, the presence of picturesque alleys and streets full of old shops, huts and rich palaces make Modica a unique and fascinating city.Of particular importance are the beautiful churches of S. Giorgio dating back to the early Middle Ages, the church of the Carmine, S. Maria di Bethlehem, S. Pietro and many others to discover and visit.
For its masterpieces the city was included in 2002, together with some centers of the Val di Noto, in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
It is also known for the preparation of the typical chocolate.
